Why I am pro-choice

Since this past Friday, I have gotten into a couple of online fights on Facebook about reproductive health rights for women. Both Shirley Manson and the band Veruca Salt posted on their FB page a picture of a bag that states that "I went to Planned Parenthood all I got was..." and which listed numerous services that PP provides (besides abortions). Being an asshole I am, I had some fun with the anti-choice trolls by hammering them with facts.

Being a woman, I do not particularly like it when men as well as other women try to dictate me what I can and can not do with my body. I am not a chattel nor is this reality the same as the classic novel The Handmaiden's Tale by Margaret Atwood. What is discussed between my physician and I is no one's business, definitely not the government's business nor anyone else's damn business. It can also be said that is NOT my business what another woman does with her unborn fetus.

Not long ago tonight I came across this horrible story about a mom and boyfriend killed teenage daughter as part of a rape-murder fantasy (according to prosecutors) . I was completely sickened by the story. Why would a mother think it is okay to have your own flesh and blood be raped and murdered. Grace was born to a  horrible mother which makes me more convinced that women should have access to safe, legal abortion procedures. I am not crazy about the idea of abortions being used as a form of birth control but I am a lot less crazy about ill-equipped mothers having children they do not want, and subjecting their own flesh and blood to an ungodly amount of pain and suffering.  This is one of my arguments I use online with anti-choice/pro-birth fanatics is that I rather see unborn fetuses be aborted than for them to be born to horrible parents who would end up subjecting their son or daughter to unnecessary pain and suffering.

What also irritates me the most about the anti-CHOICE fanatics is their fixation of the unborn fetus and not those living. If you really want to call yourself pro-LIFE, you better define it as caring for the living as well as for the unborn. You really better give a fuck when a trans woman of color is raped and/or murdered, when an unarmed black man is shot and killed by a police officer, and when members of the LGBTQIA community is gunned down in a nightclub. Also pro-LIFE should also include being anti-war/torture/death penalty while being pro-birth control, family planning, and state assisted programs for families living in poverty. You cannot cherry pick the definition of pro-life. If all you care about is the unborn fetus and not for the living, then you are just pro-BIRTH. There is nothing about you that says you are pro-life.
